It's true

I will also attest that this isn't an April Fool's joke. We will be having a baby in October, inshallah. Our official due date is October 27th.

And I made a pretty big error in the crossword puzzle, so it's a good thing only Emily did it! Number 5 down should be "stork" but I put the answer as "crane" accidentally, which totally throws off the whole puzzle because stork obviously doesn't fit in the word ice cream. Oh, well.

My excuse is that I am suffering from pregnancy brain.

My reason is that we made the crossword puzzle up right after putting Rachel down for the night. Her bedtime story was The Heron and the Crane so I had birds on the brain. Crane. Stork. What's the difference?

We're about 10.5 weeks along and everything is going well so far. I haven't been very sick, just insanely tired. We've already started seeing Dr. Tarek, an OB/GYN recommended by my friend Melissa, who had her baby over here, just because we were nervous about the prospect of having a baby out here and wanted to make sure that we liked our doctor and everything.

So far Dr. Tarek seems very nice. He was educated in America and did his residency there so we're pretty confident about his skills. We're just not so sure about the hospital.

Melissa said the hospital was fine, but this was her first baby. Rachel, a woman who lived in the branch here a few years ago (and who we actually saw when we were visiting from Jordan), also had a baby here and was planning to have it at the same hospital, but ended up having her in the bathtub. Soooo...we'll see how I feel about it when the time comes. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to go and have a baby in a bathtub by myself...

  1. I'm so glad you commented on my blog! Because for some reason, my reader didn't pick up this post....WEIRD, I'm mad about it.

Congratulations! I'm thrilled for you, and EVEN MORE thrilled that we're close to each other, because now when I read your "Dear Baby" posts, I can just comment and say "amen." and you'll know I really mean it. :)

    How've you been feeling?

  6. Congratulations! We are delighted for you. I wondered if you were when you sent the word cross puzzle, but never did find the time to do it (I briefly looked at the questions to see if I could tell from that, but didn't have time to do the research right then). I am so happy for you!

  8. YAY! I have to say though that you must be a little crazy to add on to Rachel, that girl's got energy. But hey, eventually the new baby will take some pressure off you when they can keep each other entertained, right? Can't wait to find out what it is and may you stay only tired!

  9. Congrats!!! It seems like everyone I know is just delivered or just announcing! (not my turn again, though, phew!) During my last months being pregers w/ Rachel I spent a lot of time laying on the couch with Karen running/playing/bringing me stories to read in the living room. I so know how you feel on that part! Good luck, and hope everything works out like it should!!!

  10. Wow, I might get several near-birthday presents this year... someone else I know really well is having a baby at the very beginning of November. So if all these babies come just early enough, I can have lots of namesakes. hahahahahahaha

  17. Thanks, everyone. :) We're pretty excited to have a new baby around.

@ Bridget -- We think that all the time, too.

@ Megan -- I know! And that's exactly what I'm hoping for. It will take a while until they can really play together, but if this one is anything like Rachel, it will be up and running by 9 months. That's not too long to wait, right?

@ Katharine and Heidi -- I know! It's so close to so many birthdays! Our due date is my friend Sara's birthday. I'm hoping to have this baby on that day, or before. Not that Kayl's birthday isn't a good day. Just that it's 2 days after my due date and I don't think I'd like that very much. :)

  18. Wonderful, wonderful news! You will have use of all that baby stuff after all. I've had experience with El Nada hospital. They're good. A lot better than As Salaam. We've had in patient experiences with both hospitals and El Nada won for better everything, hands down.

  19. Congrats! I off course think you are crazy :) I was just telling Jason today I want to squeeze our last one in a little earlier than I originally planned because I LOVE our hospital here and don't want to risk hating the one he will be doing residency at...and that is in the US :)

  21. PS I forgot to tell you Ezra asked yesterday if he could come over and visit Andrew. I said, "Ezra that is like a ten hour flight away." He said, "So can we do it this weekend." Kids are funny :)

  23. Congratulations!!! That'll be so cool for him/her to be able to say, "Yeah, I was born in Egypt..." So I take it this is why you wanted to talk to Casey's dad. Sorry he's so hard to get a hold of. If you have any questions (not too personal ones I guess) that you want to ask through us, let me know. :)

  24. Congratulations and LOL! The reason our blog is "pelicanparks" is because we originally called Amy "Pelican" before we knew what gender she'd be. I came up with the name and later, when Bonnie asked me where I'd got it from, I told her "You know, the bird that brings the babies!"
But I don't get the excuse of pregnancy brain! doh!

  25. I figured it out, b4 this post, but congrats. I am so busy lately keeping up on the blogs is all I can muster! Can you believe I actually have to work now? Plus applying for other jobs, kids, PHP and now add moving to the mix....ugh day never has enough hours! More kids the merrier, I think, sometimes, other times I don't think at all, makes it easier, sometimes....

  26. On the playground (where I get ALL my important news) today Bonnie said, "so, did you see that Nancy's pregnant?" To my horror, I had to admit that I'm quite behind on my blogging. But, you better believe that after coming in and putting Sunshine down for her nap, your blog was the first one I checked out!
Congrats! I hope things continue to go well. :)

  27. Congratulations!!!! You're not supposed to bury this post behind a million other ones so that I have to find out about it from the Hancock Hummer! :) I'm just glad I read the Hummer, otherwise I'd be WAY out of the loop! :) I'm so excited for you!
