Life is good when you're growing up

When I was growing up we had the Care Bears Movie II at our house so whenever I think of Care Bears I think of that movie. There's a song in that movie—besides the Care Bear Cheer—that comes to mind a lot. It's about growing up. I really can't believe that I can still sing it after all these years; after all, the movie came out when I was Miriam's age. Perhaps that's testimony of how many times I watched it when I was a child.

Growing up, it's something you can measure
Growing up, it happens every day
Being young is something you can treasure
But life is good when you're growing up!

We are doing a lot of growing up around here. If Miriam stands on her veriest tiptoes she can reach the doorknob. This evening she insisted on having a bedtime cup like Rachel and insisted on putting her own ice cubes in the cup. She took a big swig, exhaled passionately, and said, "ICE!"

She can also say:

Apple
Baby
Ball
Bath
Bear
Book
Bowl
Car
Colour
Cookie
Cool
Cracker
Dada
Eye
Go
Hi
Jesus
Me
Momma
More
Nurse
Pizza
Poo
Potty
Rachel
Shoes
Teeth
Up
Video
Want
Water
Yes
Yoga

I'm sure there are words that I'm missing.

The one word she won't say is "no." Instead she writhes around, shakes her head vehemently, and does this grunty-growling thing. I've tried to get her to give me a simple no but she insists on making a big show out of her response.

Currently my favourite word is "video." Sometimes when Grandpa is working Miriam, given the slightest opportunity, will break into his cave office and he'll pull her up onto his lap, click on over to the Sesame Street channel on YouTube and the two of them will have "video time." She has started to request video time whenever she's near anyone with any kind of computer.

Truthfully, when she says it, it kind of reminds me of ET.

"Veee-beee-oooh!" she pleads, "Veee-beee-ooooh!"

It's just great.

This girl is definitely growing up.

And, yes, it's something I can measure.

And, yes, it happens everyday.

But life is good.
