He was born in Prussia - territory that was part of Germany until 1918, when it became split between Germany, Poland, and a slice called Memel was taken by Lithuania. From 1910 onwards, he is shown in census records as born in Russia, but in his marriage & military records he is shown as born in Germany, and in his enlistment document, it specifically says he was from the German province of Prussia. Both cannot be true - No part of Prussia ever became Russian until after WW2. It is a mystery.

Minnie, his wife, is somewhat less mysterious. She was the daughter of Pinchas (Philip) and Dora (Klein) Bernstein, married thrice. First to Joseph Weiner in 1905, then to Sam Fox in 1929, finally to Moishe "Louis" Brodkovsky in 1938. Minnie and Moishe are buried in the same graveyard as both of her former husbands.

Joseph served in the Philippines during the war, but also was in Cuba, where he was released from service.

I'd be interested in why you think his name was Prepitovsky, since it is so different from Weiner.

Thanks for the post - it is an interesting story.

SteveAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07431295356917973052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624978.post-49886501667727113772012-12-17T13:34:46.556-05:002012-12-17T13:34:46.556-05:00I love that Rachel invited her teacher to the Prim...I love that Rachel invited her teacher to the Primary presentation, and I love that she came even more!
