The flu is (almost) gone

Yesterday found me sick in bed, hardly able to move. That meant Rachel had a rather boring day. She spent a large part of the day playing by herself in her crib. When she got sick of that I brought her into bed with me and held onto her ankle while she tried to crawl around. When she got sick of that we went into the living room and I snoozed on the couch while she goofed around.

When I decided that she was getting too liberal with what she deemed worthy of play, I put her back in her crib and we would start the whole cycle over again.

Neither one of us was terribly happy. I'm just glad that I wasn't violently ill like Andrew was and that Rachel is able to play by herself, at least for a little while.

This morning I could hardly even open my eyes, even though Rachel was an absolute gem and went to bed at 8:30 last night without a fuss. She woke up around 11:00 pm, but didn't cry. Andrew just turned her songs (Italian primary CD) back on and she put herself to sleep and didn't wake up until the morning. Considering I went to bed at 9:00, I should have been able to wake up when the alarm went off at 7:30, but I didn't even hear it beep--highly unusual for me.

Andrew brought Rachel in to get her morning meal and I fell asleep nursing her. I don't even know what time that was. He played with her and let me sleep until it was time for him to go to school. He took Rachel and dropped her off at Grandma's house on his way. Well, kind of on his way. It's actually rather out of the way, but he did it anyway. What a great husband!

I didn't wake up until noon. I got up for a bit and had a little snack of soda crackers, Gatorade, and Sprite, checked my email, and went back to bed until around 4:00.

I feel a lot better and I think Rachel had a much happier day with Grandma, running errands and playing with new-to-her toys than she would have having a repeat of yesterday with me! I don't know what we're going to do when we don't live near family anymore!

  1. I forgot to mention that she was a happy girl all day with grandma and didn't even have any milk! All she ate was apple juice and bananas!

That's not to say she wasn't happy to get some milk once she got home--she was all too excited about that--but she is becoming such a big girl!

  2. I was more than happy to have Rachel all day (and even more happy that Rachel was so good!). Spending that much time with her reminds me of the good old days when I had four small children at home--moms never have time to get anything done!
