Phoebe's a reader! She reads things!

Here's Phoebe and the kitty enjoying the sunny window together:

This morning Phoebe finished with her 100 Easy Lessons book! She was very excited about it!

My opinion on this book is that it really didn't have to be 100 lessons. I feel like the last few don't really introduce anything new...they are just driving home the fact that sometimes stories are told in...installments...I guess. Like that it's okay to read a chapter or portion of a book or story and then return to it later? I don't know. The last few lessons have traditionally been difficult for my kids to get through—they're just bored of the (honestly?) boring stories in the book and want to read actual books. And that's fair. That means they're ready to move on.

But there's also the feeling of accomplishment that comes with having seen something through to the end, right? Maybe? Or maybe offering the kids a prize shortchanges that feeling. I dunno.

Miriam got to go to Pelican's when she finished the book. Benjamin and Alexander both chose a little LEGO set. Zoë wasn't about to finish the book and didn't care about a prize. Rachel wasn't about to entertain the idea of even doing the first ten lessons of the book.

Phoebe wanted...chapstick.

She loves chapstick. See, for example this conversation from July 2024:

Me: What did you find?

Phoebe: Papstich!
Me: You found chapstick?
Phoebe: Yeah! On Zoë’s shelf!
Me: If you found the chapstick on Zoë’s shelf…wouldn’t that make it Zoë’s chapstick?
Phoebe: Her is not here! So now it’s mine!
Me: Okay…so this is not how ownership works…
Phoebe: I love my papstich and I love purple. It’s nice of Zoë to leave this here when she left, right? It’s so purple. Isn’t that nice?
Me: You know she’s coming back, right??

And here she is with two tubes of chapstick from February 2024:

She just really likes chapstick!

So here she is with three tubes of Frozen chapstick that she got today for finishing her reading lessons:

Exciting times over here!

Last night I had her actually read during family scripture study, which is the first time we've had her do that for some reason. She did a fine job, but was a little annoyed about it.

"Can't I just repeat what you say like I normally do?!" she moaned.
