I was delighted when Phoebe was the first one to encounter the name "Annie" because she said "Ay-nee," which is exactly how Rachel thought it was said (for who knows how long before I finally figured out she was really saying "Annie"). Because we were reading it aloud together, I had the opportunity to correct Phoebe right away (unfortunately).
But, you should know, Rachel, that I have a friend here, from Finland, whose name is Eini, pronounced (more or less) "Ay-nee."
So...it's not like it's not a name. It is!
Also, for the record, Phoebe 100% knew what to do with all the hyphens in the book (unlike Zoë). Ja-ack and An-nie gave her no trouble—she knew to holler them out and everything. It was almost depressing.
*****
Today—much to Phoebe's glee and Alexander's horror—the kids discovered that Phoebe's face can unlock Alexander's phone (which isn't really a phone, just a device). The facial recognition feature is 100% convinced that they are the same person.
So then Andrew brought home their QID cards this evening (finally—we are all official residents!) and when we compared them side by side we could see that they really are the spitting image of each other.
It's almost comical:
It isn't difficult for us to tell them apart, but I won't argue that they don't look alike.
When our friends got their children's QIDs (something I assume happened in one batch and not three—getting our IDs seemed to take forever), they found that the same picture had been used for two different children (that is, they used one child's photo for two children in the family). They tried to get it fixed, saying, like, "Yeah, so that's actually the same kid on both IDs and you really want this picture to go on this other ID card," and the office was pretty much like, "I...don't see the difference."
So...they just have to make sure to look at the names on the cards before they present them as ID.
The good news (?) is that these ID cards have to be renewed quite regularly, so it's not as if an issue like that lingers on for years on end. It'll just be fixed the next time around.
