We did it! We made it to May!
Phoebe has been asking "When's it gonna be May?" since the pool closed at the end of September.
The kids have been taking about the upcoming summer swim season nonstop all winter.
But we did it! We're finally here!
So here's our First Day of the Pool Season picture for 2026:
This year Miriam opted to stay home and nap. So Corbin stood in for her (he came up from Florida to visit Rachel (and her roommate Hailey, who happened to be in Georgia for her cousin's wedding this week), having also just finished up his first year at BYU). Phoebe is kind of blocking Rachel's face, but I had to keep her little "peace sign" fingers in there. Here's one with Rachel's face:
It was, once again, rather chilly this year. We were really looking forward to the pool opening the last couple of weeks of April because it was so dry and so hot, but then a storm system moved in and it rained nonstop for like five days and cooled everything down and, well, May 1st wasn't looking too hot.
Like, literally.
It was pretty chilly.
My little girlies wimped out pretty fast (big talking from me—I got in up to my waist to make Phoebe happy). Here they are shivering together:
The boys and Rachel and Corbin were surprisingly committed to sticking it out in the deep end. They played some games, went off the diving board, and filled all the time we had before we had to run Benjamin over to the other pool for his swim team practice.
By the time I get back from Austria (because—surprise!—I'm going to Austria) I think the weather should be a lot more pool-friendly.
Here are our polar plunge posts from the past: 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Here's a picture from 2021:
Apparently I neglected this tradition in 2022, but here's a picture of the last(ish) day at the pool:
Me, having jumped in fully clothed to retrieve Alexander from the deep(ish) end in 2023:
Without my too-cool-for-pools teenagers in 2024 (a nice, warm start to the pool season):
And all my kiddos last year:
We're looking forward to spending a lot of time at the pool this summer!
