Good Friday

Phoebe and Zoë wore matching dresses for tonight's Good Friday concert. They're dresses that Darla's girls used to wear when they were younger.

We almost forgot that Phoebe is a primary child and can therefore participate in the primary portion of the evening. She wasn't very excited to sing tonight, however. In fact, she told me that she was "disappointed in this event" and when I asked her why she told me it's because there were going to be so many people there and she didn't want to sing in front of so many people.

But she did just fine.

You should know that she begged and begged Zoë for the privilege of wearing that heart necklace.

Zoë is such a sweet big sister. And Phoebe is a sweet little sister.

But, oh, did Zoë have a time wrangling Phoebe up on the stand!

I had a terrible view of the children, so here's a rather terrible picture of my kids waving palm fronds while singing 'Hosanna' from the Primary Children's Songbook:

I took a short video of them singing and waving their palm fronds and when they stopped singing I turned off my camera—but I should not have! (Update: The full recording is here with the story below at the 12 minute mark)!

The children were supposed to collect and return the palm fronds at the end of the song before singing their next song ('Gethsemane'). All the other children passed their palm fronds down the line.

...Not Phoebe.

Phoebe engaged in a tug of war with Zoë.

And she was serious about it.

Like, you-can-pull-this-palm-frond-from-my-cold-dead-fingers serious

Eventually another older primary child got involved in the tussle.

And then another until finally they got Phoebe to give up her palm frond.

She was not happy about it, but she sang through 'Gethsemane' (because she likes that song) and then pouted through 'As I Have Loved You.'

The rest of the program went fairly well, I think. Rachel and Miriam attended rehearsals and sang with the choir and the youth choir (I joined in the choir having not attended any rehearsals...because I'm rogue like that...and because Andrew was out of town both weeks they had rehearsals). Miriam played prelude and postlude and accompanied a duet and one of the songs the youth choir sang and played a piano/organ duet for the congregational song and...she was a busy, busy lady...and did so great!

It was a wonderful evening and it was thrilling to get to sing with a large choir again (accompanied by an orchestra, no less)!

  1. We watched the program and had a good chuckle over the frond fight! The children sang with such enthusiasm.
