Yesterday we worked right up to (and probably a little past) dinner time and then—covered in spider webs and at least one actual spider (found on my shoulder whilst at the restaurant) from clearing things out of the garage and basement—we took the kids to Waffle House for, well, waffles.
They thought it was a huge treat!
We don't often go out to eat (six children = $$$), so these two little ones have never been to a Waffle House since moving here (we did take Alexander to a Waffle House when we were house hunting before actually moving here but haven't taken him since).
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, Waffle House is offering a "firework" upgrade to waffle orders for a nominal fee, so the kids both ordered a waffle...with fireworks.
I was just as surprised as the kids to find out that these "fireworks" were Pop Rocks! Their pancakes arrived piping hot, with the Pop Rocks popping and sizzling on their plates (one even flew up in the air from the force of its little explosion).
Phoebe put a bite into her mouth and after feeling the sensation of the Pop Rocks popping in her mouth exclaimed, "What?! I didn't expect them to put actual fireworks on my waffle!"
It was a bit of a silly dinner, but I didn't have to make it and the kids thought it was the best!
