Last night Rachel was cleaning her room when she came across a UFO (an UnFinished Object), which she decided to take a few minutes to finish. It was a hat she had started during General Conference...in October...of 2021.
She's standing over my shoulder as I type this and would like to say that in her defense she started it then, put it down, and left it down for 3+ years before picking it up again.
I suppose that's an excuse.
At any rate (and the rate in this case was incredibly slow because it took her 3+ years to do so) Rachel has finally finished the hat!
This morning Zoë helped Phoebe try on all our most recent handmade items (hat and sweater by Rachel, scarf by Zoë):
As Rachel put it, Phoebe looked very Dobby-esque. Phoebe also requested pants and socks. We'll have to work on that.
In other news, Benjamin's new sweater arrived today.
His favourite colour is orange...and we have often dressed him in orange jackets (1) because that was the colour of his favourite hand-me-down jacket and (2) because we learned that it made him very easy to keep an eye on (he was kind of a wanderer when he was little, but I always knew that orange blur was mine...).
So when he needed a new sweater/jacket years ago to replace what he had dubbed his TIE figher jacket (both these pictures are from October 2016 when we went to DC and visited our friend Amanda, and Benjamin was so excited because he had an acute fascination with George Washington)...
Anyway, when we had to replace that orange jacket, I purposely ordered an orange fleece jacket to replace it (because (1) he wasn't about to relinquish his TIE fighter jacket without a fight and it was getting awfully small on him and (2) he was still little enough and squirrelly enough that we had to have some way to keep a visual on him). He has been wearing it for years—the whole time we've lived here, just about! I decided it was time to update that sweater and when I asked him what colour he might want he said..."Orange!"
So I ordered him the very same jacket (only bigger this time) and it finally arrived today. It is bright! But if my memory serves me correctly the smaller orange jacket (which I quizzically cannot find a picture of) was that bright of an orange when it first arrived as well.
It sure has seen some things over the course of its lifetime...
The new sweater arrived in the mail today, so it was in the mailbox when we headed out for a walk this afternoon. I pulled it out and tossed it to Benjamin who tore off his old sweater and handed it to Alexander, who seamlessly donned it over his own sweater and claimed it as his own.
So now the boys both have orange jackets (though Alexander was more of a "velcro baby" and didn't need an orange jacket to keep track of him because he was never more than a hand's breadth away from me) and they're both very excited about it!
Awww, so cute to see little Benjamin. :)
