Human again! I feel human again!

This "cold" that I got at the beginning of the year, and which I thought would be a little three-day cold (or whatever) turned out to be more like a three-week cold. But I'm pleased to announce that—at long last—I'm feeling much better.

I have three classes on Tuesday, but one of them is online...so I only have two classes that I need to be present in. The only problem is...they are this far apart (1.3 to 1.4 miles—last week I walked the path on the right, but today I walked the 28 minute path instead):

It's quite the hike. To put things in perspective (for some of my readers), I don't think a straight-path walk this long is even possible on BYU's campus. Sure, you can achieve it if you meandered around, but walking the most direct course from one building to another? I don't think so.

It's about on par with walking from the Life Science building to the Student Health Center on BYU's campus (but students don't typically walk to the health center on the daily):

I'm still working out why 1.3 miles takes 31 minutes in Provo but only 28 minutes in Athens. I imagine it's elevation because when I flip the trip (walking downhill from the Student Health Center to the Life Sciences Building) it's only a 26 minute walk. And it turns out if I switch the direction on UGA campus it takes 31 minutes to cover the same distance, so I'm assuming the map is factoring elevation gain (and stairs—sometimes the route tells me if it requires stairs).

Anyway, there is a bus that runs through campus but every time I look up the route it actually takes longer on the bus than it does to just walk it. Plus, I can count it as my exercise for the day. I'm not really complaining about it...just explaining the size of this campus, which feels bigger to me than BYU did.

BYU campus is 560 acres, while UGA is 760 acres...which doesn't sound that much larger.  We won't even talk about Duke's campus.

Anyway...this post is about how healthy I'm feeling this week compared to...the rest of the year. So I checked my watch to see my "stats" from these walks this week and last. These totals include all the walking I did on campus (including to/from my parking lot)...

Last Tuesday:

122 "zone minutes"
5.66 miles
93 cardio load

(5 hours of sleep)

Today:

55 "zone minutes"
5.45 miles
47 cardio load

(5 hours of sleep)

My mileage didn't change very much, but I think this speaks to how awful I still was feeling last week because there's no way I should have clocked that many "zone minutes" walking across campus (and, indeed, I did not clock that many today).

There are a lot of stairs to contend with on this little walk, as well. This message was there to greet me coming up from a long staircase (and yes, I also did the stairs in the background of this photo, along with several other sets of stairs):

It was sweet of the pillar to cheer me on.
