He and I were texting before Josie was even up.
"We should jump on a call and talk about train tickets..." he suggested (Josie and I are going to visit him in May).
"Rushing to get ready for church atm" I said (atm = at the moment).
We've been going early for morning choir practice, which already feels like a bit of a sacrifice. With daylight savings added on top...and with some late night excitement at our house (prom, among other things)...it felt like a real sacrifice this morning. We managed to get the choir people up and out the door in time to be just barely on time for choir, if not a minute or two late, which I felt was really pretty good, all things considered.
But the joke was on me the whole time because I was accidentally left off the group text informing everyone that choir practice would be moving from 9:30 to 9:00 to allow us a full hour in the Relief Society room before the other ward kicked us out.
So we walked in at 9:30, quite proud of our timeliness, only to be half an hour late. Not that I'm very sad about having missed out on that text message...because I didn't have to feel guilty about not being ready in time for 9:00 since I didn't know about needing to be ready by 9:00.
"Well, Josie probably won't be up and wanting a phone call for a while," which was true, considering this conversation took place in the 6:00 hour for her. "So what time works for you after work? Church. The work of Sunday. 2:00? Noon for Josie?"
"How about a little earlier," I suggested. "Because I know I'm going to want a Sunday afternoon nap."
We ended up calling each other at 1:15. And it was a good call.
But Patrick wasn't kidding about church being the "work of Sunday." I mean, technically he was kidding because he had meant to type church all along and only accidentally typed work. But today was certainly no day of rest!
Both Andrew and I gave talks in church today. Miriam, of course, played the organ.
Benjamin and Zoë went to church with Grandpa and Darla (and are currently on their way to Washington DC), so Andrew decided he'd sit with Alexander and Phoebe to start with and that I would sit on the stand. But then he ended up being tapped in to help pass the sacrament (filling Benjamin's shoes, probably), so that left Phoebe and Alexander on their own in the pew (they did great).
I stayed on the stand and it's a good thing I did because I opened up my hymn book to sing the opening hymn and...our chorister wasn't there. No one seemed to be coming up to the stand so I stood up and conducted the opening song...hymn #34, 'O Ye Mountains High." I am not very familiar with that song, so I didn't know the words without reading them, so I was rather glued to the hymn book and then—BOOM!—the time signature switched from 4/4 to 2/4?!
Like, I was not prepared for that!
Anyway, it went...fine. And then I conducted the sacrament hymn, which went better.
After the sacrament, I gave my talk. And then I conducted the intermediate hymn, and then sat down with Alex and Phoebe while Andrew gave his talk. And then he went down to sit with the kids while I conducted the closing hymn.
It was a busy meeting.
Brother Stewart came up to me afterwards and apologized. He completely forgotten that he'd been asked to substitute as the chorister. It was fine—just busy!
And then I went and taught singing time in primary...and Phoebe gave a little talk and Alexander said a prayer and...so, yeah. Church felt like the work of Sunday this week, for sure.
Phoebe shared her favourite scripture, Moses 6:34—"Behold my Spirit is upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify; and the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me." And talked about how she likes the song "I Will Walk with Jesus" (which we learned last year).
We do rather informal "spiritual thoughts" in our primary, rather than serious talks so she mostly ad-libbed (plus she was filling in for Zoë, who was asked to give a spiritual thought on Friday night...but wouldn't be in primary so...)
