Extra, extra!

I haven't seen Dad yet today, but I have talked to Mom, so this information is kind of second-hand. Andrew and I are planning on going to see Dad tonight--we'll see if that happens.

The doctor tried to "discharge" Dad today but Mom didn't feel ready to have him at home yet. She's having the Elders Quorum come over today to rearrange some furniture so that Dad can be a little more comfortable. Furthermore, Dad was just moved to recovery yesterday so there was some protesting from the nurses and the social worker. Dad's only done one "lap" and he's supposed to be able to do a few before he gets sent home. I'm not entirely sure what "lapping" entails, but I'm sure it has something to do with walking around.

So, Dad should be coming home tomorrow. He'll have a good three months of basic nothingness (read: recuperation) before he can get back into the swing of things. The social worker wants him to get a job so that he can keep himself busy during the day--but not for another three months or so--to help him sleep at night. It doesn't have to pay much or be the "perfect" job, but he does need something to do during the day.

He's sounding pretty good. When I called his room to find Mom (it was time for her to pick up Josie), he answered the phone himself and sounded rather chipper-er than before. That's the first time he's answered his own phone that I know of.

I'll keep keeping y'all posted.

  1. Hey, I'm so glad to hear that your dad is doing better. That's really great to know. Gosh, do I ever know how scary it can be to have a family member in a life-threatening situation... So yeah, again, I'm just really glad to know things are all right, or progressing more and more towards all right. :)

  2. I'm amazed... In France, they keep you forever in the hospital after an open-heart surgery.
But how will your mom manage with everything piling up? I know she's strong. I met her when she was about Josie's age and she used to be such a small and frail little girl. Well she probably was already stronger than we thought cuz we sure weren't that kind to her some days.
    All my love, Marie
