Happy birthday to me

My birthday request was maple doughnuts, something that we've had trouble finding down here. They probably have them somewhere and if we were more foodie I suppose we'd know where to find them (but I dunno because I just checked Monuts' menu and they don't have maple doughnuts listed, so...). Anyway, Andrew picked up some Krispy Kreme doughnuts on his way home from work/school (our first time stopping by there ever but I said that grocery store doughnuts wouldn't do for my birthday) and he made some maple glaze to dip the doughnuts in.

They turned out lovely.

Rachel sang "you look like a monkey" at me so I made this face at her. It's not a very good monkey face...

We should have had Miriam jump over to the other side of the table so that she could be in a few pictures...but we didn't so instead you get to look at Rachel some more.

Miriam made me a lovely card. In case you can't read the "cursive" at the bottom it says, "the best 31 year old."

Inside it says:

Sorry that Ben hit Zoë. It's ok. I'm worried that Zoë will get her eye glued. I'm sorry that your [sic] not haveing [sic] a happy birthday!!! On your birthday. Sorry some of it's me. But I love you!

I have sweet kids. Even if sometimes I still have hard days, at leas I have sweet kids.

My mom left a card for me before she left (thanks, Mom) and Karen sent out a cake book, which Benjamin was immediately enamoured with. He took it right out of my hands and ran away to read it on his own. He's got his next seven birthday cakes planned. I have my work cut out for me!

One week later, I can say that, all in all, it was a pretty good day. Zoë's eye is healing up nicely. Things that were stressing me out aren't stressing me out as much anymore. And I've almost gotten used to thinking that I'm 31.
